Baklava
20 pieces phyllo |
1 cup butter |
1 cup walnuts |
½ cup almonds or pecans |
½ cup sugar |
1 tablespoon
cinnamon |
½ teaspoon ground cloves |
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
Chop nuts and mix in sugar and spices. Brush baking pan (12" x 17") with melted butter. Place 8 phyllo sheets on bottom, brushing each with melted butter. Spread half of nut mixture on top of phyllo and repeat process. Place 4 phyllo layers, buttering each layer and then put remaining nut mixture on top. Place 8 layers on top, brushing each with butter. Use remaining butter to brush top. With a point knife score top sheets in diamond or square shapes in sizes you desire. Bake in oven at 375 degrees F for 1 hour or until golden brown. Let cool and pour warm syrup evenly over Baklava. Serve cool.
Baklava Syrup
1 cup sugar |
½ cup honey |
1 cup water |
1 tablespoon Lemon Juice |
Mix ingredients together. Bring to boil and simmer for 10 minutes, until mixture is clear. Allow to cool slightly and then pour over Baklava.
